The 4 Different Types of Manufactured Homes

Whenever people discuss mobile homes, there are a couple of different terms or phrases that come up that we often use interchangeably. There are four different types of manufactured homes that we tend to discuss. Today, Mobile Home Outfitters is here to explain the main differences between these options and what goes into their construction.

1. Manufactured Home

Most of the time, when people discuss mobile homes, it’s likely a manufactured home that they really mean. Manufactured homes are housing units that companies build in a separate location and then transport to another location for installation.

2. Mobile Home

When looking at the four different types of manufactured homes, we often refer to all of them as mobile homes. Mobile home is often an all-encompassing term for any home that can move from place to place. Traditionally, mobile homes exist for the sole purpose of moving and may contain features like wheels or trailer jacks to aid in mobility.

3. Modular Home

Modular homes are very similar to manufactured homes in the sense that manufacturers traditionally build them off-site and transport them to a specific area. However, companies create modular homes to adhere to particular state, county, or local laws and regulations. Modular homes come in multiple pieces that homeowners or manufacturers put together on-site, and they typically have a greater opportunity to increase in value through future renovations.

4. Pre-Cut Home

Pre-cut or prefab homes are similar to modular homes in that manufacturers do the general construction off-site and then bring it to a plot for assembly. Unlike modular homes, pre-cut homes require more assembly and generally ship separated walls, roofing, and other components to put together on the main site rather than connecting or adjusting the position of finished rooms.
